You can easily scour the web for information on the current head coach of the men’s basketball program at UCLA, Steve Alford. This includes his playing days in college, winning an Olympic gold medal for the USA men’s basketball team in 1984,or his coaching days at such universities as Iowa, New Mexico, and now at UCLA. So for somebody that has been so successful in his career, why are we asking for Steve Alford to be fired as head coach of UCLA’s basketball program? There are several reasons and this is the place to find out about all of them. In the very near future, we will be covering the following:
2. Constant underachieving in the post season which includes only one Sweet 16 in 20+ years of coaching.
3. The most ridiculous contract and buyout ever put together for the head coach of any college program ever. The responsibility for this falls on UCLA’s failed leadership in the Athletic Department. I’ll save this topic for another day though.
4. Inability to land a point guard in UCLA’s own backyard. UCLA should never lose a recruit to USC in basketball. Ever. Period.
5. Odd game time coaching decisions and lack of urgency from the players to get up for games (even games involving bottom dweller teams such as Washington State).
As you can see, there are plenty of topics will be covering here. Unfortunately due to the astronomical amount required for Alford’s buyout, we get the feeling he will be coaching in Westwood through 2019, We can only hope that at least one deep pocket donor decides to step up and demand change sooner.
